Sorry I am posting so many things in a row. I had these saved on my computer and I never put them up.... until now!
My second tutoring session took place at my apartment over the course of a couple days. This past Friday (Jan 29th) John came over and he showed me his new IBTOEFL book. I looked it over and decided that to get a good evaluation of where John is at with passing the test, he should take the sample model test. In order to pass the IBTOEFL test John will have to take speaking, listening, writing, and reading sections. I assigned him homework for the listening, reading, and writing. The next day John came to my place so that we could record him taking the speaking section on my computer. Sadly, we didn't have much time and the microphone wasn't cooperating. Instead I got out a piece of paper and took notes of his mistakes. I wrote down pronunciation errors and grammar errors. The major thing I noticed was that he had a problem with when to to use "has, had, or have". He also used "of" in the wrong places. For example he said, "the color of blue", instead of "the color blue." The next time we meet I will try to address these issues. I feel like this tutoring is forcing me to brush up on my basic grammar. Which is definitely a good thing. Overall, John has a long ways to go with the speaking section because he speaks too slowly. In 45 seconds he sometimes only had said a couple of sentences. We will have to practice more and more with speaking so that he can answer quicker. Two months until the test! *crosses fingers*
