My second conversation with my Turkish CP was fruitful for her. Turns out, she used to be in a play and enjoys acting. When you look at her, you wouldn't guess! But who's judging a book by its cover?!? I encouraged her to tell me about the play she was in. It was difficult for her to go there, and there was a moment where she paused and said, "let's talk about it another time." And I told her that we could, but that I think it would be beneficial to continue the story. Talking about the play is similar to explaining last week's activities. So....she continued, struggling all the while.I encouraged her to talk to people in the lounge. She confessed to starting a conversation with a girl on a bus. I thought it was great! She is not confident in her English, and prefers speaking with Turkish friends, but that's what I'm here for. I told her, "One day you'll be fluent like me," and she was beside herself. She put her hand to her chest and exclaimed, "What? You think?"
Boy do I take my English for granted.
I have to admit, I was tired at tea-time. I still mustered enough energy to speak with her for an hour. For her, it seems to be a very intense experience. She puts her hands to her temple a lot. I'm guessing she goes home afterwards and naps. Wish I could! Who would have known: CP work is.....work.
